LATCH Cheque Presentation

The Province was pleased to present a cheque for £1000 from the Provincial Benevolent Fund to the Latch Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity at the recent General Purposes Meeting at Carmarthen Masonic Hall.

LATCH supports children who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales, and their families. The Unit’s catchment area stretches from Chepstow in the South to Aberystwyth in the North. Around 70 new cases are diagnosed every year.

Latch aims to assist in important areas where NHS budgets are usually not available to fund.  Its provisions include:

Accommodation so that families can stay together during treatment

Financial  support  for hospital travel and increased home heating costs when a child is on chemotherapy.

Funding for medical aids

Leisure and play equipment and activities in the unit

Use of specialist mobility buggies

Emotional and social support  for children and their families.

Grants towards respite holidays
