PGM launches Dyfed’s ‘The Magic of The Mark’ membership drive

Our Provincial Grand Master this week launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the Mark Degree throughout Dyfed with a view to attracting new members.

Speaking at the installation meeting of the Mansel Mark Lodge in Carmarthen PGM Gary Hicks explained that the term ‘The Magic of the Mark’ was first used by our late Assistant Grand Master, R W Bro Stephen Davidson, to express his love for this degree.

“The Mark degree sits between the second and third degrees in Freemasonry and really demonstrates how the Fellow Craft learns his trade,” said the PGM. “For many it is the fourth step in freemasonry and provides many useful lessons in a practical ceremony which is easy to understand for new Master Masons.

“The best recruiters into any organisation are its existing members. The Magic of the Mark campaign provides useful information including a trifold leaflet and business cards to hand to potential candidates.

Within the literature are QR Codes and links to our website and a video providing information about what is often known in Masonic circles as ‘the Friendly Degree’.

“The future of Mark Masonry in this Province is in your hands — If you enjoy this lovely degree share that enjoyment with others. Please equip yourself with a few leaflets and business cards at your next meeting, then talk with potential recruits and encourage them to watch the Magic of the Mark video,” continued R W Bro Hicks.

“Hopefully I’ll then have many new Mark Master Masons to welcome into the Province!”

Master Masons wishing to join Mark may enquire with any member of the order. In fact, possibly the most effective approach is to mention you are considering joining at any festive board and inevitably a swarm of friendly and helpful Mark brethren, many of whom will no doubt be acquaintances of long standing, will offer to help.
